Getting Ready for Wood Badge

Less than three months remain until Wood Badge 2012 begins and I couldn’t be more excited. Some of the most experienced Scouters and best trainers I know are on the staff. They represent every district and program offered in the Heart of Virginia Council. They’ve been working tirelessly for months to make the course a mountaintop experience.

Our council’s Wood Badge course is said to be one of the best anywhere. Having talked to dozens of leaders from other councils this past year, I will back up that claim. The brisk registration we’ve had over the past 9 months also reflects the great word-of-mouth passed along from previous Heart of Virginia courses.

To give the Wood Badge experience to more central Virginia Scouters, the Council recently expanded the course size from 48 to 56. This is great news and will increase the experience and diversity already in the course.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be contacting those who can now join the course, and everyone else who registered – including those who are waitlisted. I am always available to answer questions, but it’s important to me that I get to know a little bit about each Scouter and understand their expectations for the course.

As we approach the course, this website will become active and give you useful information about what is to come. You will also become acquainted with staffers as we post their bios. I’ve also asked some of the staffers to write short articles about course themes.

The countdown begins now.
